Maestro—fantastic music—ends bluntly with the characters exiting as if the event never happened. The blunt ending vacuums the enjoyment out of the opera and its music. It may have worked at a higher level if an audience was included to show the milling around that occurs before an opera and the inevitable audience evaluation of the opera at its conclusion to soften the event and allow appreciation to have its way to sink the performance into a softer conclusion.
