The Abyss has some 5-star, phenomenal acting by Ed Harris about three quarters of the way through the movie. The film overall is…average…but shows flashes of high potential that have not been fully developed nor capitalized upon which gives it that on/off roller coaster ride from its beginning to its end.

Buy a ticket? Yes? No? Maybe?
Yes. This movie has more of the style of Director John Carpenter (Escape From New York). It's a surprise to see Director James Cameron's name attached to this film. While this is not one of Director James Cameron’s better works, there is still that taste of his directing style that surfaces enough to encourage an audience to continue viewing.
