I SPY ( Theatrical Release USA 2002)

Ben Meyers’ rating: 3.9|5.0 Starsììì

I Spy
—a remake, but not a remake that resembles the original series. This should be viewed as a separate from the series for better entertainment expectation. As a stand-alone, it is a good movie to see due to the effort Eddie Murphy and Owen Wilson put into their assigned characters.

Additional Thanks

Thank you to Director Betty Thomas for directing effort. Thank you to Executive Producers Warren Carr, David Ginsburg, and Marc Toberoff for making the film possible. Additional characters/cast include: Kelly (Eddie Murphy), Alex (Owen Wilson), Rachel (Famke Janssen), Gundars (Malcolm McDowell), Carlos (Gary Cole), Jerry (Phill Lewis), T.J. (Viv Leacock), Lunchbox (Keith Dallas), Lieutenant Percy (Tate Taylor), Edna (Lynda Boyd), McIntyre (Bill Mondy), and Vegas Commentator (Larry Merchant).

Buy a ticket? Yes? No? Maybe?

Maybe. The movie works for its money, but disappoints due to expectations of viewing something that resembles the original story. When one finally realizes that isn’t going to happen, then one can settle down and watch the flick for what it is…not for what it is purported to be by its title.
