SOUL SURFER (Theatrical Release USA 2011)

Ben Meyers’ rating: 3.7|5.0 Starsììì

Soul Surfer
—based on a true story—does not realize its full potential. The scenes seem to fail to catch the emotion involved in this traumatic life event and seem, at times, a little cold. It seems that the best scenes are the surfing scenes rather than the event and how it impacted the girl and the real force that enabled her to make a comeback. The trip to Thailand seems disconnected to the story at large. It seems there is another story to be told that has been suppressed.

Maybe. The movie tells a surfing story; the book tells about a changed life beyond losing an arm and returning to surfing.
