THE TAKING OF PELHAM ONE TWO THREE (Theatical Release USA 1974)

Ben Meyers’ rating: 4.0|5.0 Starsìììì

The Taking of Pelham One Two Three—
dated 1974 movie, but worth watching—does not compare in quality or entertainment value as compared to the Tony Scott 2009 remake of the same movie that stars Denzel Washington and John Travolta. Look for Jerry Stiller in this film.

Storyline

Four men take hostages in a New York public transport system and threaten to kill them unless the city ransoms them.

Additional Thanks

Thank you to Director Joseph Sergent for directing effort. Thank you to Producers Gabriel Katzka and Edgar J. Scherick for making the film possible. Additional characters/cast include: Police Lieutenant Zachary Garber (Walter Matthau), Bernard Ryder (Robert Shaw), Harold Longman (Martin Balsam), Giuseppe Benvenuto (Hector Elizondo), Denny Doyle (James Broderick), George Steever (Earl Hindman), Frank Correll (Dick O’Neill), Al (Lee Wallace), Caz Dolowicz (Tom Pedi), and Mrs. Jenkins (Beatrice Winde).

Buy a ticket? Yes? No? Maybe?

Yes. If one is studying remakes versus their original films, then this serves as a good comparison watch to its 2009 counterpart. But if one looks for entertainment value, watch the 2009 remake instead.
