Zoom—it’s
definitely not in the best family
film category. It lacks realism and its comedy plays as a sporadic event which
seems partially the problem of casting choices. Both Rip Torn and Chevy Chase are
not up to their usual acting abilities. They act their parts almost half-heartedly
with a certain ‘unawareness’ as if their minds are elsewhere. While this
preoccupation with ‘something else’ is balanced with strong acting by Tim Allen
as Jack Shepard/Captain Zoom, along with Spencer Breslin as Tucker
Williams/Mega-boy, Michael Cassidy as Dylan West/Houdini, Kevin Zegers as Connor
Shepard/Concussion, Kate Mara as Summer Jones/Wonder, and Ryan Newman as Cindy
Collins/Princess, it doesn’t really make up for the seeming non-support of Rip
Torn and Chevy Chase.
