THE AMERICAN (Theatrical Release USA 2010)

Ben Meyers’ rating: 2.8|5.0 Starsìì

The
American—a great assassination drama and a good story—earns its R-rating from nudity and sex scenes that add nothing to the story and, in fact, seem to detract from it. Even more distracting is the feeling that the scenes were added as an afterthought rather than intended to be an integral part of the story. Too bad. The storyline deserves more than a 2.8 Star rating; the sexual distractions ruin a great flick that deserves a larger audience. The movie made a tidy $47.9 million at the box office. One has to wonder what it would have made if it had chosen to appeal to a wider audience.
